Element of Surprise

When beneficial, I’m the easiest person to surprise.

At the end of Nassim Taleb's "Fooled by Randomness," he writes about wanting to be fooled in certain circumstances, but only when appropriate. When reading legal agreements I can’t miss a detail, but when it comes to having fun….

A few years ago I was at a John Mayer concert at MSG. That tour he played two sets with a brief intermission. Right at intermission, a prerecorded video came on screen where Mayer announced that he would be playing "Continuum" in its entirety as the second set. I was a little disappointed that he spoiled the entire song order for the second set! Isn’t part of the fun at concerts not knowing what would come next?

A pleasant surprise adds a sense of wonder and anticipation to everyday experiences.
